To get you in the mood for some ‘Dota 2’ action, we take a look at five terms used in the heat of the battle – and some that you are likely to hear when tuning into ‘The Pro 16 Dota 2 League‘ this month.

Buff

This has to do with a spell or effect being cast on a unit which is beneficial to the unit. The term ‘debuff’ is the opposite of ‘buff’ and relates to a detrimental spell or effect being placed upon a unit. You always want someone to ‘buff’ you…

Jungling

This has to do with the elimination of neutral creeps in the woods between the lanes. If your hero is good at taking out neutral creeps, then they will become known as a ‘jungler’.

Offlaner

This is the term used for a solo hero sent down the hard lane on their own. These heroes have the ability to take on two or more enemies by themselves. It is a risky tactic but can be thoroughly rewarding if it comes off.

Rat

This term is used when heroes avoid five-man teamfights and rather push other lanes.

Snowball

As the name suggests, this is all about the snowball effect of a team or hero getting stronger and stronger as the game goes on. This makes the hero or team almost impossible to stop, just like a giant snowball would be rolling down the mountain.
