#ThrowbackThursday – Doom

What was it all about?

PAC-MAN is without doubt the most iconic arcade game of all time – please don’t question that!

A very simple game at its core, gamers are required to race around a maze collecting dots. The challenge is to avoid the ghosts – Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde, who want to catch PAC-MAN. There are four Power Pellets located on the map which allow PAC-MAN to strike back at the ghosts, but that special power runs out after a short period of time.

PAC-MAN loses a life every time he is caught by one of the ghosts, but lives can be replenished by collecting cherries which pop up within the maze.

The game is fast-paced and tests the gamer’s ability to think ahead while racing around, as you need to predict what the ghosts are going to do and which path will ultimately end in the completion of the maze.

Best part about the game?

The pure adrenalin which is experienced while racing around hasn’t quite been matched in video games since.

While the game is very basic in its controls, graphics, and gameplay, this simplicity is what makes it so addictive.

Also, when you think you are getting ahead, your complacency can easily come back to bite you. It is tricky for a basic game, this here PAC-MAN!

Luckily for us, many versions of PAC-MAN are free to play online, so the game will never die off, and it is likely to remain a mainstay in the gaming world for many more years to come.
